Shin currently has claimed the top bunk, complete with green and purple handknitted blankets in addition to the basic blanket and pillow. The storage space under the bottom bunk is Nanami’s if she wants it. She may find the red scarf Shin wears in icons tucked away under there with one end tattered and charred, and he’ll have a pretty strong reaction to it if she brings it out, telling her to put it back or taking it and shoving it under his mattress for continued out of sight out of mind. The scarves he’s currently wearing is a handknit mint green one on top of a blue one (major spoilers) that's covered in black lines and circles. Also habitually hanging around his neck, hidden by jacket and scarves, is a small key and a penlight on their separate lanyards.
In the middle of the room is a large square electric kotatsu, coloured indigo-blue with white lotus print and edges, and with a brown wooden tabletop. It tends to be on whenever Shin’s present, and often has a soup container and bowl as well as homework or notes spread out on it. Helena will often frequently visit to use it, although with Nanami here she won’t just barge in. Shin tends to be a pretty tidy roommate in general.
Shin can be often found working on his laptop (minor spoilers) either at the kotatsu or on the top bunk, the power cord trailing to one of the outlets found on each of the four walls. A small hand heater is also often found in these two places. A a larger heater (minor spoilers) stands in the corner across from the door and bunks. Feel free to smack his hands away from taking up all four outlets or turning it up to maximum.
There’s shelving on the wall that I’ve manifested by assumption: one shelf holds a cute cat bowl containing about twentysmallrocks, sticks, crumpled up papers, interesting leaves, a piece of bubble wrap, and a post it note with a cat themed game of tic tac toe drawn on it, as well as another with a little drawing of a hamster.
Outside of the bowl but still on the shelf are: various CDs and floppies, many unlabelled or unclearly labeled with marker, various cute black cat pins, a plush fruit that has a plush spider inside along with a few more of the small plushes found here, an orange laser pointer, a microfiber cloth and can of compressed air, and a small stack of six ancient-looking onemon coins.
In it's own little section of shelf sits a stone paperweight with buttercups painted on it, on top of a handwritten note signed by a Maya and a scrap of paper with the word '202' in blocky handwriting on it. Underneath is a stack of blue construction paper with white fingerprints carefully affixed to each leaf with tape. They are labelled in Braille: S, H, M, Ko, Kj, ? and R. Next to the paperweight is a wallet containing only a coffee shop card with 27 yen in it, a set of miscellaneous house keys, and two nonfunctional PDAs.
There’s a notebook with a cute pink rabbit print mechanical pencil left on top of it; opening it reveals blank pages with faint indentations and then pages and pages of names and dates written in red ink. There’s ones she might be familiar with in there, but she’d have to go pretty thoroughly through to find them.
One of the closets contains various red art supplies which can’t be taken from the room; Shin’s happy to demonstrate how paint falls off and falls to the floor and crayons seem to hit an invisible wall, and that handily explains the otherwise somewhat concerning red stains in that area.
There’s a small sack tucked away in the corner of said closet… it’s full of ashes? Mysterious. This is also where Shin’s been keeping his various spare clothes whentheyhaven’tbeenonthefloor (last three moderate spoilers). There's also a large rectangle of purple cloth with a ragged cut edge bundled in with them. Tucked in one of the cat ear beanies should she go through his clothes for some reason is a likewise mysterious and also broken collar device (major spoilers) and a blue Hope Fragment.
The second closet, because apparently there's two in each room, is free for Nanami's use. It's empty, having been cleared out recently...
Speaking of going through his clothes for some reason, there’s items he tends to carry on him and are in the pockets of his purple jacket which he hangs on the edge of the top bunk or tucks into the corner of the wall next to his pillow before going to sleep in his clothes: an eye keychain with his dorm key and a student council key on it, a smartphone, a kitchen knife wrapped in old bandages, a black lighter with a blue flame, a plain USB, a vending machine snack of one kind or another, and his fingerprint-activated PDA.
Shin’s vending machine food stash is also in the closet; he considers some of it disappearing the natural consequence of having a roommate, and he won’t be too upset due to him getting a lot of merit points from his Computer Science Teacher salary unless it goes faster than he restocks. It’s meant for surviving school breaks when the home ec room stops restocking itself with food.
There’s no windows, so the air smells like the place hasn’t been, well, aired in a while and also a little like smoke? The room is at the intersection of two hallways with the laundry room behind it and Senku and Noah’s room next door; noise filters through accordingly.
As far as habits go, Shin usually gets up fairly early, aroundish six when the silence ends, leaving to shower and change before going to the dorm kitchen to make breakfast (usually some kind of soup, or something basic like toast or rice and a hot drink) and bringing it back to the kotatsu to eat while working on things; he’ll grab Nanami some too if she’s up and interested. After breakfast he leaves to go to the faculty office before classes start.
The moon dorms cause a growing anxiety to set in if you sleep in past eight; Shin tries anyway on the weekend. In the evenings he usually returns to the room instead of doing things in the common room, which he dislikes being in now not least because there’s a large portrait of his face (minor spoilers) in there, hanging on one side of the fireplace.
Because he wakes up early he tends to go to bed early… when he isn’t fixated on something he’s stuck on. He has difficulties sleeping and may find it difficult to get to sleep if Nanami isn’t already or just be staring at the ceiling with spinning thoughts. He also has nightmares; it won’t be uncommon to hear them or find him sitting on the top bunk scribbling something down before burning it with his lighter and staring at the flames... which explains the smell at least.
